James Bond creator Ian Fleming will once again be portrayed on the small screen.
English actor Sean Maguire has been cast as Fleming in an upcoming episode of the US television series 'Timeless' by NBC.
In the episode titled 'Party at Castle Varlar,' Abigail Spencer's Lucy will meet Fleming prior to the start of his writing career, when he was working in British Naval Intelligence. In the episode, which is the fourth of the season, Lucy, Wyatt (Matt Lanter) and Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) will travel to Nazi Germany in their attempt to stop the time-traveling terrorist Flynn (Goran Visnjic). Bond fans may recall that Visnjic was an outside candidate for the role of 007 after Pierce Brosnan left the series.
Producers wrote Fleming into the story when they decided to feature Nazi Germany for the hour. "We knew we couldn’t just do a war movie, so where we landed was, ‘Alright, then let’s do a spy movie. We needed a spy in Germany to help our heroes and bring them into this world... and we turned to our historian, and he said, ‘Let me work on it,’ and then he comes running in the room an hour later and says, ‘Ian Fleming was there!' So, quickly, we realized our World War II story was really a James Bond movie, and we had the real James Bond."
NBC announced that the series will premiere on October 3, 2016. Episode four's expected air date will be October 24, 2016 (subject to change).
