Bollinger will not be in 'Skyfall', but plans 50th anniversary products

22-Mar-2012 • Skyfall

James Bond's preferred on-screen champagne will not be seen in the new film "Skyfall".

Bollinger president Jérôme Philipon told The Drinks Business that Bordeaux premier grand cru classé, Château Angélus, will not be appearing in the forthcoming film. “We had the meeting last week of all the brands involved in the film and Angélus owner Hubert de Bouard was not present,” he said.

But fans of the bubbly will at least have some 50th anniversary treats instead. “We’ve got a couple of limited edition Bond-branded bottlings that we’re going to launch in October to coincide with the Sky Fall premier, but I’m sworn to secrecy on the details at the moment,” he said.

Interestingly, Bollinger may be the only brand with product placement in the Bond films that does not have to pay. Philipon told the site that the company “hadn’t paid a penny” for it to be featured in the films, but was lucky enough to have an incredibly strong relationship with the Broccoli family.

“Brands like Sony, Coca-Cola and Jaguar are spending millions to appear in the film, but we’ve never exchanged a single euro. Two of the top Champagne houses have offered huge sums to be the Champagne of choice in the films, but the family hasn’t accepted their offers,” he said.
