Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen scoops Cannes Film Festival award
Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, who played villain Le Chiffre in Daniel Craig's first James Bond film "Casino Royale" (2006), has become the first thespian from his country to land the coveted Palme d'Or Best Actor award from the Cannes Film Festival.
In "The Hunt", a psychological thriller directed by fellow Dane Thomas Vinterberg, Mikkelsen plays a man whose life is destroyed after a false child sex abuse accusation.
Danish film was hoping for a double in at Cannes this year, as "The Hunt" was also in the running for the Best Film award, but it lost out to Michael Haneke's "Love".
Mikkelsen dedicated his win to Vinterberg, who was back at Cannes 14 years after his acclaimed incest drama "The Celebration".
âEighty-two percent of this film belongs to Thomas Vinterberg,â he said accepting the award.
