Sony Pictures change up distribution of 'Skyfall' in Argentina
Due to a recent reshuffle of their business in Latin America, MI6 understands that the new James Bond film "Skyfall" will not be released in Argentina by Columbia, the usual distribution outlet for Sony Pictures in the country.
Columbia has been struggling with financially disappointing releases of Sony Pictures films in Argentina, a situation compounded by the movies often opening months after other countries in the region.
Instead, Sony has inked a sub-distribution deal with United International Pictures, which also distribute Paramount and Universal in Argentina.
"These types of alliances are necessary in a market with such challenges as this one. We-re very glad to bring the films of a studio like Sony Pictures to a great team like the one we have UIP Argentina", confirmed Mauricio Duran, Senior VP for Distribution and Marketing at Universal Pictures International for Latin America
It is not clear whether the release schedule for "Skyfall" in Argentina has been affected by this switch. The previously announced date was November 1st, 2012.
Sony Pictures did not respond to request for comment in time for publication.
