Sir Roger Moore confesses he suffered domestic violence in new TV interview

12-Sep-2012 • Actor News

The longest running James Bond actor, Sir Roger Moore, has confessed in a new television interview that he suffered domestic violence at the hands of two of his ex-wives.

As reported by The Sun, Moore says his first wife used him as a punchbag and once threw a teapot at him (often leaving him with scars) — while the second attacked when she twigged he was unfaithful. He tells his story on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories that will be broadcast on ITV this Friday in the UK.

Sir Roger, 84, who has been wed four times in total, said: “She would scratch me. My mother was always petrified when I went home to see that I had more scars. The marriage was doomed. She threw a pot of tea at me. I’d been sunbathing in the garden, I came up and I’d taken off my pants and I gave her some smart Alec answer and this teapot came hurtling at me.”

And he claimed that he was not alone in feeling Doorn’s violence — once she even clocked a doctor.

He explained: “I cut my hand open once and we went round to the local GP and she said to him, ‘Aren’t you going to do anything?’ and punched him. “Which made a change because normally she punched me! I said, ‘Right, that’s it, that’s the end, I’m leaving’.”

The pair divorced in 1953 and the same year Roger wed singer Dorothy Squires. But it turned out Dorothy could be nearly as violent as his first wife.

He recalled: “She had a great temper. I remember, to avoid confrontation, I used to strum the guitar and one day I was sitting on the edge of the table strumming my guitar and she was ranting on about something and I wasn’t taking any notice. Next thing I know, I could feel the guitar coming out of my hands and see it up above my head and ‘bash!’ it came down. She ruined the guitar.”

But her most bitter attack was provoked when she discovered Roger, who was 13 years younger than her, was having a fling with young Italian actress Luisa Mattioli.

He said: “Dorothy was not happy. She threw a brick through my window. She reached through the glass and grabbed my shirt and she cut her arms doing it. The police came and they said, ‘Madam, you’re bleeding’ and she said, ‘It’s my heart that’s bleeding’. And it probably was but there you go — I’m selfish.”
