Fragments of producer Harry Saltzman's espionage past revealed

26-Sep-2012 • Bond News

New documents from the Saltzman family archives have been released that detail James Bond's producer, Harry Saltzman's time in espionage circles.

Published online at Vanity Fair, new documents and pictures give an clue to the producer's past.

Collected amongst the documents are Canadian-born Saltzman's oath of allegiance to the United States, dating from 1939; a letter from the director of the U.S. Office of War Information (O.W.I.) to G. Howland Shaw, assistant secretary of state, discussing Saltzman's assignment; and a follow up letter in which it is suggested that Saltzman be posted to London on official business. Authors have speculated that the producer and 007's creator might even have crossed paths whilst in the UK. It is undoubtable that Harry carried out a series of top-secret opporations for the US government and military during the Second World War, and these papers, riddled with redactions are testimony to that service.
