'Skyfall' set for bombastic Thanksgiving box-office weekend

22-Nov-2012 • Skyfall

Despite a slew of new movies hitting the multiplexes around the USA this Thanksgiving holiday, the latest James Bond adventure "Skyfall" is set to hold on to its #2 spot at the national box-office in its third weekend on release.

Although the final "Twilight" installment will hold on to #1 after its debut last week, there is still strong business out there for 007 in the USA & Canada.

On Tuesday, "Skyfall" took $5.6m (almost double "Quantum"s $2.9m on the same day in 2008) and a whopping $7.45m on Wednesday (again, almost doubling the $4.1m "Quantum" took last time around).

After 13 days on release, "Skyfall" actually increased its screen count to 3,526, up from 3,505. A sure sign that theater owners are sensing there is good business still to be had.

If "Skyfall" performs like "Quantum" in the coming weeks, it is set to make over $250m domestically.

Industry estimates put "Skyfall" on course for a 3-day weekend take of $34.1m, and the wider 5-day holiday weekend period at $49.7m.

At the international box-office, "Skyfall" is still to open in Australia, Japan and China. Each added approximately $20m to the totals for "Quantum of Solace".
