007 creator Ian Fleming selected for statue in Dover, England
Known to many as one of the major port cities of England, Dover (and its surrounds) is also known to James Bond fans as the location for Ian Fleming's novel "Moonraker".
Fleming, who lived in St Margaret's Bay, has been selected as the third local hero to get a life-size two-dimensional steel figure on Dover's promenade.
The first was Dame Vera Lynn, English singer-songwriter and actress who sang the wartime classic 'The White Cliffs of Dover'.
The second was local hero Jamie Clark, who brought the Olympic Torch into Dover, and was our town's first Torchbearer on 18 July in celebration of London 2012.
The third, Ian Fleming, was selected by public vote. 007's creator beat Cuthbert Ottaway, Ian Fleming, Henry II and James I with 45% of the tally.
