007 disappears from Netflix streaming service

01-May-2013 • Bond News

May 1st has been dubbed 'Streamageddon' by the Over-The-Top media delivery business. Today is the day that hundreds of movies drawn from the MGM, Universal, and Warner Bros libraries are pulled from the popular streaming service Netflix as licensing deals expire.

The cull of MGM titles from the catalog means that all of the James Bond films (and other MGM titles pre-1986) are no longer available to watch via Netflix.

Many sites counting down to the deadline were recommending subscribers make the most of the 007 series whilst it was still online.

In a statement, Netflix said: "The vast majority of the titles that expire on Wednesday are older features that were aggregated by Epix. We recently added many great, more recent titles such as ParaNorman (Universal), Hunger Games (Epix), Safe (Epix) and Bachelorette (Weinstein). Tomorrow we will also add MI:2, among many other titles. Netflix is a dynamic service, we constantly update the TV shows and movies that are available to our members. We will add more than 500 titles May 1, but we also have titles expiring, this ebb and flow happens all the time."

All of the James Bond series is available to stream via Amazon Instant in the USA.
