Run down DB5 sells at auction for more than £320k

A blue 1964 DB5 was recently discovered in a garage, after 33 years off the road. The engine bay was reportedly home to a family of mice when the car was rediscovered after all these years.

It had once belonged to David Ettridge, an Aston Martin Owners Club member, who purchased the car in 1972 for £1,500. He stopped driving it in 1980 and passed away in 2011. The engine apparently started noisily after being re-lubricated and estimates suggest that the buyer will need to spend a further £200,000 on the famed Bond car to bring it up to scratch. That is, on top of the pricy £320,700 paid by its new owner when they won the bidding at Bonham's Auction House.

At the same event, a rare 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT “Jet” broke the record for Aston auctions, raking in £3.2m, and beating the estimated price of £2.8m. This price trumps the £2.9 winning bid on 007's DB5 back in 2010.
