Real-life 'Skyfall' premiere events feature in HBO's 'The Newsroom'

28-Aug-2013 • Bond News

For Bond fans who caught the latest episode of HBO's excellent series 'The Newsroom' on Sunday night, there was a little 007 treat.

The Newsroom is a political drama series, created and principally written by Aaron Sorkin, that chronicles behind-the-scenes events at the fictional Atlantis Cable News (ACN) channel. It features an ensemble cast including Jeff Daniels as anchor Will McAvoy, who, together with his staff set out to put on a news show "in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements".

At the end of this week's episode, Jane Fonda (who plays Leona Lansing: CEO of Atlantis World Media) enters the room for a showdown with the main players in the drama following the fall-out of a bogus news story.

Dressed to the nines, Fonda's character explains her mood: "I just paid a thousand dollars to see Skyfall and attend a party at the Museum of Modern Art with the proceeds going to the Tribeca Film Festival. You know why? To meet Daniel Craig... Hurricane Sandy and the airports... He wasn't there. You look like Daniel Craig, get up! Oh, you look less like him now, sit back down..."

"Shut the f*ck up you Daniel Craig wannabe!"
