Disney moves 'Ant Man' movie to avoid Bond 24

09-Sep-2013 • Spectre (2015)

Disney blinked today as they pulled the release date of their super-hero comic book adaptation of "Ant Man" to avoid a head to head confrontation with the 24th James Bond film.

The Mouse House had originally planned to release 'Ant Man', directed by Cornetto trilogy helmer Edgar Wright, on November 6th 2015 - the same day as Bond 24 as announced by Sony Pictures and MGM.

Bond 24 will by Daniel Craig's fourth film as 007 and will be directed by "Skyfall" helmer Sam Mendes, returning for his sophomore outing with Bond. Disney clearly did not believe they could compete with the Bond juggernaut as "Skyfall" smashed opening weekend records.

The studio gave no reason for the move, but confirmed in a press release that 'Ant Man' would move to July 10th. The title character is a biochemist who creates a formula that enables him to change his size and communicate with and control insects.
