RTE regains James Bond rights for Irish television
The Sky deal that locked up James Bond television rights exclusively to the satellite broadcaster during the franchise's 50th anniversary recently expired and ITV grabbed them back for UK screen last month.
Now, broadcaster RTE has done a similar deal to take back control of 007 over the air in Ireland.
RTE's latest deal with MGM and Sony means that it is set to show Quantum of Solace over Christmas, with older Bond movies For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights, Licence To Kill and A View To A Kill all set to be broadcast on RTE Two over the season.
Broadcast sources told
The Sunday Independent that it could cost between â¬1.5m to â¬2m to secure rights to the newer Bond movies owned by Sony, with a cost of â¬40,000 to â¬70,000 for each of the older back catalogue.
