Sir Roger Moore funds the next stage of campaign against foie gras
Various celebrities, including Joanna Lumley, Morrissey, and Ricky Gervais have all put their voice behind the PETA campaign against London shops stocking foie gras, but Bond star Sir Roger Moore has been one of the most active agitators.
Now, it is understood that he has personally funded the latest batch of flyers that explain the ills of the expensive pate. Luxury goods store Fortnum & Mason are the prime targets, and leaflets will be handed out by volunteers near the store between now and Christmas.
"The callous treatment of geese filmed by investigators at the very farms in France from which Fortnum & Mason's distributor sources foie gras was far more violent and cowardly than anything James Bond ever faced at the hands of villains," Sir Roger Moore told
Contact Music.
He continued: "I want shoppers to hear the simple fact that foie gras is so cruel that it is illegal to produce in the U.K. and to know that Fortnum & Mason keeps selling this bird-abusing foodstuff although the British public is up in arms about it."
