Bond well represented in MGM 90th anniversary trailer

24-Jan-2014 • Bond News

Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) was founded way back in 1924 when Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures Corporation and Louis B. Mayer Pictures merged. Throughout the 1930s, MGM secured some of the brightest stars of the filmmaking era and thrived in the early years of the "talkies".

007 and the iconic studio would come together when United Artists Corporation (founded by D. W. Griffith, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks), who had been producing Bond pictures since the 1960s and "Dr. No", merged in the 1980s. Now the roaring lion that opens every MGM picture has become almost as iconic as the 007 gun barrel.

The 90th anniversary trailer cuts together some classic scenes from the MGM back catalogue, new and old: from "The Hobbit" to "Get Shorty", "Rocky" to "Ronin". "Goldfinger", "Skyfall", "Dr. No" and "Die Another Day," are amongst the Bond films that have represented the MGM legacy in their 90th anniversary trailer.
