Cinematographer Roger Deakins will not return to shoot Bond 24

18-Feb-2014 • Spectre (2015)

A surprising and, for many, saddening rumour has hit the internet. The Academy Award-nominated cinematographer is not expected to be back for James Bond 24 when it goes into production late this year.

Deakins told TOH! a few days ago: "[Sam Mendes] has got a great idea for another film, which is really an extension [of 'Skyfall'] but from my point, I don't know what else I could do with it, really."

But the news only got attention when IndieWire noted a tweet by Kristopher Tapley (@kristapley) on Sunday:

Deakins was nominated for an Oscar for his work on "Skyfall", and whilst he's been nominated for a further 9 films between 1995 and 2013 the respected cinematographer has never clinched the award. He has another opportunity to do so at this year's Oscar ceremony, where he has been nominated for his work on "Prisoners" (2013).
