Young Bond authors Charlie Higson and Steve Cole discuss (video)
The Fast Show show star Charlie Higson and author Steve Cole at Hay Festival discuss the difficulties of bringing James Bond to life for young readers while remaining true to essential ingredients of a classic 007 adventure in this
Telegraph interview.
Writing stories for a younger readership about a character who is famous for "killing people, having sex with lots of young women, driving fast cars, smoking and drinking" does present certain challenges confessed Higson.
"They are not really the sort of thing you can have the hero of a children's book doing a lot of," he said. "But at the same time children did come to the series with certain expectations of what they wanted James Bond to be doing. One way or another we managed to work them in."
Cole added: "You do find ways of making the character relevant to the target readership while still staying true and foreshadowing elements of the adult Bond."
