MI6 News Wrap: All the latest headlines from around the globe on the current Pierce Brosnan saga

11-Feb-2004 • Casino Royale

MI6 rounds up all the latest news from around the world on the current Pierce Brosnan saga. Note: A lot of these stories are simple rewrites of Monday`s Daily Mail piece that claimed MGM was dumping Brosnan because he was tool old for the audience they want to attract.

Chicago Sun-Times
"Brosnan getting kicked out of her majesty`s secret service"
The paper claims Brosnan has been told he will not be optioned for the next film. The piece quotes heavily from the original Daily Mail story, and features mini-bios on each actor and their age data.

Ireland On-Line
"Pension for Pierce?"
Another article claiming the producers have dropped Brosnan because at the age of 50 he is not attracting enough young fans. No quotes from "insiders", but interestingly they claim the next film is the 22nd in the series, not the 21st.

NewIndPress
"Pierce Brosnan is getting too old for James Bond"
Without sensationalising the news, NewIndPress report that the Bond producers will be looking to replace Brosnan after they take his option up for Bond 21, as he will be too old for a sixth (presumably in 2007).

The Times Of India
"Brosnan may have to say never again"
Taking a break from stories about Aishwarya Rai, The Times Of India quote and source the Daily Mail in their piece with the familiar tale that he is too old for MGM chiefs. Unsurprisingly, they also copy the Bond 22 error from the original article.

MegaStar
"Young guns eye Bond role"
In a somewhat sensible and well-ground piece for the tabloid sensationalist, MegaStar list off the young potentials vying for Pierce`s role after he completes the next film. Hugh Jackman is touted as the favourite.

Herald Sun
"Hugh Jackman, next Bond"
The totally unbiased Australian paper claims that "Aussie hunk" Hugh Jackman has already been signed to take over from 50 year-old Pierce Brosnan, without bothering to cite the Daily Mail as the source for their "insider" quotes.

News Interactive
"Jackman`s 007 tip"
Another Hugh Jackman campaigning piece from the Australian press. The paper makes the familiar error that the next film is Bond 22, and does not quote any sources when they claim the move is due to Brosnan being too old.

No official statement has yet been made by either MGM or Eon Productions.
