The Daily Mail journalist behind the first `Brosnan Axed` article tells MI6 she stands by her story, but her past reputation may cast fresh doubt on the rumours

Earlier today MI6 spoke to Nicole Lampert, the Daily Mail journalist whose `Brosnan axed` article on Monday sent shockwaves through the Bond community.

The original article claimed MGM were axing Brosnan due to his age and were targetting a new, younger actor to re-energize the series.

Since Monday`s publication, the article has been quoted, plagiarized and twisted by numerous reports in newspapers, internet news sites and radio broadcasts around the world.

Lampert told MI6 today that she stands by her story completely and unequivocally.

When asked about inaccuracies in the article, most notably claiming the next film in the series is the 22nd (not the 21st), she admitted that there had been some "editorial errors" in the published piece.

Eon Productions have yet to make a statement.

Celebrity news followers may be familiar with Nicole Lambert before this `Brosnan axed` whirlwind.

Australian actress Nicole Kidman was accused in a Daily Mail piece by Nicole Lambert of engaging in an affair with Jude Law, causing Law to betray his wife, Sadie Frost, resulting in the breakdown of their marriage. The newspaper also suggested that Kidman`s repeated denials of an affair were dishonest.

Kidman accepted "substantial" damages and a public apology after a high court case. Associated Newspapers, the editor, Paul Dacre, and Nicole Lampert, the reporter, accepted that the allegations were untrue. They apologised and agreed to pay legal costs.
