MGM pulls down dark James Bond fan film concept
Fan filmmaker Adi Shankar, who created waves last month with his dark take on Power/Rangers, posted a rough concept of a James Bond parody earlier this week. MGM's team of lawyers didn't take long to make sure 'James Bond: In Service Of Nothing' was swiftly
removed from the internet, despite parody laws protecting this type of content in the USA.
Shankar posted this statement: "I have the utmost respect for MGM and the iconic character of James Bond, and although I believe my video is clearly a parody of James Bond, I will refrain from reposting it online out of respect."
The parody showed 007 reliving his glory days in a flashback and used the likeness of Sean Connery. It also used art work of the younger Connery as Bond.
Kotaku described the short: "This [was] a pre-visualization (essentially an animated storyboard) for another entry in Adi Shankar's Bootleg Universe project, one that sets up camera angles and pacing. It takes a while to get going but the story's all there. And, yeah, it's depressing. James Bond getting flashbacks to his glamorous world-saving past while people take selfies at the latest hot club may not sound like much, but once you see where he goes to get the old thrill back, it'll be hard to forget."
Some sites still have the video online.
