USA TV - Pierce Brosnan on `Entertainment Tonight!`, Thursday evening

18-Mar-2004 • Media Alert

Pierce Brosnan will feature on Thursday 18th March edition of "Entertainment Tonight!" in North America.

Brosnan hangs up his devil-may-care, secret-agent gear to play high-powered, New York divorce attorney Daniel Rafferty in his latest film, "Laws of Attraction." Rafferty is a media darling who practices law in-between writing books and appearing on talk shows, but still always manages to win his cases by the seat of his pants. He finally meets his match in more ways than the law in Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore), a by-the-book, never-lost-a-case rival. Need we say the two wind up in court on opposite ends of a celebrity divorce?

On tonight`s ET, they take a first look at this charming love story, also starring France Fisher as Moore`s mother, and Parker Posy and Michael Sheen as the celebrity couple getting the divorce.

Posey and Sheen`s big dispute centers on a castle in Ireland, so their attorneys head for the Emerald Isle, where the ambiance of the country, and a little pub-crawling, help Daniel seduce Audrey. "There was a wonderful alchemy created by going to Ireland for the film," Brosnan claims. "For me it was like going home."

And despite the fact that these two attorneys see the worst in relationships, and know full well that at least 50 percent of marriages fail, they cannot deny their attraction, and wind up with the urge to merge. The next morning, a horrified -- and sober -- Audrey has second thoughts when she sees the wedding ring on her finger.

"Being a divorce attorney has to be one of the most demoralizing jobs," Brosnan says. "Because you just see humanity falling apart every day. You see these miserable lives -- that started in love and friendship and beauty -- crumble before you, and now they are at each other`s throat. How long can you keep doing that stuff and still keep the faith within yourself if you want to have a full life and have relationships?"

For Brosnan, who has never been divorced (his first wife Cassandra died of cancer in 1991), that was the interesting aspect of the script. "He`s at the point in his career where he doesn`t really care," Brosnan says. "He has been at the top of his game. He`s good, but there`s more to life ... He`s asleep and he opens one eye and there she is -- the woman that he has been looking for."

What else can he do but go for it? "Laws of Attraction" comes to US theatres on April 30th 2004.
