Aishwarya Rai says her Bond 21 role did not work out because the script was not delivered

20-Mar-2004 • Casino Royale

Aishwarya Rai is talking 007 again, and this time she admits she has no contract for a role because the script for Bond 21 was not delivered.

"Six months ago I came to know that the filmmakers of Bond movies were looking for an Asian actress so I approached them through my agents," she said.

"At that time the script was in the air and nothing was finalised. The script did not materialise so the role did not work out."

All is not lost for fans of the actress though, as Rai said last month that she remained the top choice for the producers, "if they used an Asian character they would come to me".

Bond writers Neal Purvis & Robert Wade said at a recent talk at the British Library in London that work had started on the Bond 21 screenplay three weeks ago. The duo spent 2003 penning the script for the ill-fated Jinx spin-off project.
