New look Coventry Transport Museum (UK) features Zao`s Jaguar XKR from `Die Another Day`

01-Apr-2004 • Event

The new look Coventry Transport Museum (UK) has thrown its doors open for the first time. The museum has unveiled a new entrance area and four galleries.

For the first time there is an introductory gallery explaining the museum’s collection plus a 1980s and 1990s gallery bringing the recent history of the car industry to the museum for the first time.

An interactive ‘Futures’ gallery exploring hi-tech developments and other modern day transport issues has been installed, and a temporary exhibition gallery for regular high profile displays is also in place.

Museum chairman Joe Elliott said that the displays will give a “people’s eye view” of road transport history.

"Coventry was the birthplace of Britain’s cycle and car industries and we have hundreds of cars, cycles and motor cycles in the museum," he said.

"These exciting new developments have given us the opportunity to do justice to this fantastic heritage."

The £7.5 million project has been funded by grants from Coventry City Council, the European Regional Development Fund, Heritage Lottery, and Government and charitable donations.

Among the new cars on display are Zao`s Jaguar XKR from "Die Another Day", Lara Croft’s Land Rover from Tomb Raider and Austin Powers’ Union Jack painted E type Jaguar.
