Sony`s proposed buy-out of MGM could spur `Never Say Never Again` style rival James Bond film

30-Apr-2004 • Bond News

According to Australian film rumour site MovieHole, the proposed buy-out of MGM by rival studio Sony could spur a "Never Say Never Again" style Bond film.

Back in 1983, "Thunderball" producer Kevin McClory won the rights to remake the film as "Never Say Never Again", pulling Connery back into the tuxedo for an `unofficial` outing. That same year, Eon Productions released "Octopussy" with Roger Moore in a head-to-head battle of the Bond's.

The site's source claims, “As Sony are gonna buy MGM - it brings about the old feud once more and the Kevin McClory/endless attempts at remaking Thunderball/Never Say Never Again saga. The `will there be two Bonds` rumour has surfaced again”.

McClory’s idea is apparently already generating some heat and is confident it’ll come to fruition.

Back in 1983, Connery told Moore that "Octopussy" was the superior film after he had seen both movies.
