Discovered sketches of a young Sean Connery feature in new Scottish exhibition
Paintings by an artist who sketched a young Sir Sean Connery are part of a new exhibition at the Dirleton Gallery in Scotland.
Hilary Buchanan sketched the Edinburgh-born film legend when she was an 18-year-old student at the cityâs college of art. But she only realised who her model had been 50 years later after reading about Conneryâs connection with the art school.
The sketches are currently being valued by Christieâs in London prior to going to auction later this year. The exhibition in Dirleton will also feature other examples of her work. It is the first time the well-known watercolour specialist from Midlothian has exhibited since finding the Connery sketches.
Also in the exhibition will be work by Frances Richardson, the first artist-in-residence at Edinburgh Zoo, East Lothian artist and teacher Lesley Wyper, and photograper Morag Grant, who specialises in African and wildlife photography.
