Rupert Everett says he will never play James Bond due to being gay

22-May-2004 • Actor News

Rupert Everett has gone on record at the Cannes Film Festival to say there is no way he’s trying to land the part of a gay James Bond, reports IOL.

The openly gay actor was rumoured to be developing an alternative to the traditional womanising, martini-drinking 007 by camping the famous spy icon up for a new audience, according to handbag.com.

“It's not true,” says Everett. “I'd like to play James Bond, but straight. It won't happen because Bond fans would burn down MGM if the studios got a gay actor to play James Bond. There was never going to be an alternative gay Bond either. That never happened.”
