MGM face copyright infringement law suit over Ian Fleming`s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang story

28-May-2004 • Bond News

According to the LA Times, MGM is facing a law suit over Ian Fleming's children's story "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".

Ian Fleming Publications, which has control of the literary rights to the 007 author's work (previously Glidrose) filed the law suit for copyright infringement.

MGM turned the book into a movie starring Dick Van Dyke in 1968. Bond trivia fans may be interested to know that Roald Dahl worked on the screenplay for the "Chitty" movie, shortly after completing "You Only Live Twice" in 1967.

IFP says film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. is infringing its copyright in the children's book "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."

Fleming's estate filed suit in a Manhatten federal court this week, the latest in a long history of legal battles for rights over Fleming's work between MGM/Eon Productions and Glidrose/Fleming's estate.
