Naomi Watts lined up to play a female James Bond role in the MI6 movie `Semper Occultus`

28-Jun-2004 • Actor News

Could Naomi Watts play a female version of James Bond?

While the actor keeps herself busy filming the sequel to The Ring, her agents have been equally busy negotiating a future role.

The producers of spy action film Daisy Scarlett (previous known as "Semper Occultus" - the MI6 latin motto) have their hearts set on casting someone who wouldn't normally be associated with an action role. Someone like Watts.

Kate Beckinsale was originally expected to take on the role but that's been shelved because they think it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for her, mainly because she's starred in several action films.

Watts' people have said they are in negotiations but nothing has been confirmed.

"We will hopefully know something more concrete in the near future," John Cann, her Sydney-based publicist, said.

The film, which will be directed by Luc Besson (The Fifth Element), revolves around MI6 agent Scarlett, who investigates the deaths of high-profile people whose vital organs have been removed. Written by Ben Treblecook, the film is described as being extremely dark and unsettling.
