Sir Roger Moore backs Bond-themed event for the blind in Merseyside, 2nd October

04-Sep-2004 • Event

The fourth annual Southport Ball (near Liverpool, UK) in aid of Henshaws Society for Blind People will be held on Saturday, October 2 at the town's Floral Hall, reports icLiverpool.

The event, which will have a James Bond theme with casino tables and cocktails, has even attracted the support of 007 himself, Roger Moore!

Although he is unable to attend in person due to commitments in Switzerland, Roger has donated signed photographs for auction and has urged people on Merseyside to help Henshaws in any way they can: "Support Henshaws Society for Blind People, and raise money for visually impaired children across the north of England."

This year's ball is sponsored once again by BMW Halliwell Jones, and aims to generate awareness of Henshaws' new appeal to raise funds to establish a children and family service on Merseyside which would replicate the charity's existing centre of excellence, established in Manchester in 1993.

Over the last decade, Henshaws' family service has established a tremendous track record in enabling parents and families to realize that sight loss need never be a barrier to a happy and successful life. Currently, there is no other organisation on Merseyside which provides services for visually impaired children that takes into account the needs of the whole family.

The creation of a dedicated Henshaws family support team on Merseyside will help parents with information, practical advice, and social and recreational opportunities.

Phillip Jones, Director of BMW Halliwell Jones, South-port, said, "We are very excited to once again be associated with Henshaws Children and Family service appeal. Last year we helped raise £15,000 for the South-port centre and the Merseyside Centre, and with an even greater take up of tables at the Floral Hall, we are expecting to raise £20,000 or more."

Attendees will enjoy a cocktail reception and a sumptuous three-course dinner, followed by dancing to the fabulous eight-piece band, Souled as Seen. Fantastic prizes can be won at the casino tables and a Wayne Rooney football shirt will be up for auction.

For further information or to book your ticket, please contact Joanna Jones on 01704 233361 or email joanna.jones@hsbp.co.uk Tables of ten are priced at £500.

The event starts at 7pm with guests seated for dinner at 8pm.
