Pierce Brosnan on the James Bond role - `I must move on. No regrets, just great memories`

08-Oct-2004 • Casino Royale

Pierce Brosnan says he has no regrets about his time as James Bond 007, and he has `fantastic memories` of his time on the four films.

Brosnan arrived in Barcelona this week, where over the last three days he has been shooting a new Christmas ad for Freixenet cava with the model Nieves Alvarez. The commercials are an annual event and a classic tradition for Christmas TV viewing in Spain.

On the subject of his time as 007, Brosnan said, "As an actor, you know that as soon as you put on the shoes of that spy, the character gets to be greater than you. But also it is true that thanks to him I have reached an international status that before I did not have".

Brosnan attended a press conference after shooting for the new ad was completed.

"I'm happy, I've enjoyed my life playing James Bond. It has given me many opportunities like to make my own films to create my own production company, but everything changes, everything is different and life goes on. In other words, I only have fantastic memories. I must move on. So, no regrets, just great memories."

It appears, though, that his experience making this advert wasn't all bad:

"I've had a few, it's always lovely to kind of go to work and have champagne first thing - well cava."

The choice of Brosnan for the ad is betting on elegant charm, on the mature metrosexual, as for all his 51 years he is considered one of the sexiest men in the world. Brosnan enjoys taking care of its image and dressing well: "I like clothes, I enjoy them. I like to wash my face and to exfoliate once in a while", he has assured the Spanish magazine Gala in an interview.

With the choice of Brosnan, the cava company returns to rely on the glamour of great of Hollywood stars. The tradition goes back to 1977 and the first ad was carried out by Liza Minelli. Since then the Xmas ad has alternated foreign stars like Gene Kelly, Paul Newman, Raquel Welch, Anthony Quinn, Kim Basinger or Sharon Stone with national artists like Antonio Banderas, Penélope Cruz and Laura Ponte. All have celebrated the festival with a glass of Catalan cava in their hands.
