Maud Adams talks about Octopussy and her James Bond legacy
Ahead of the special
21st anniversary screening of "Octopussy" in Edinburgh last night, organised by Bond And Beyond, Maud Adams appeared on
BBC Radio Scotland to talk about her titular role.
On the subject of the special screening, Adams said: "I haven't seen Octopussy in a long time, so I'm looking forward to seeing it on the big screen again. But I think Octopussy had a very good story. That's probably why it has stood the test of time."
The BBC Scotland interviewer asked Adams about her history with the series.
BBC: "Do you feel being a Bond girl has been an incumbrance to your career, or did it actually help?"
"To begin with, when I was more serious about my career it was hard, I thought `my God, I can do more than that`. But James Bond is always the one that everybody remembers. So it was a bit of a bother, but today of course, I am so grateful!"
BBC: "How did you come to land a role in the series for the second time?"
"I really didn't expect they would cast me again, and I was asked to come to London to screentest with James Brolin, who they were considering for a new Bond. I thought it would be a wonderful time to catch up with all my old friends from [The Man With The Golden Gun]. I didn't realise until afterwards that they were serious about me as well. Roger Moore ended up re-signing - and I did it! I really haven't quite figured out why, to be honest."
BBC: "What was it like when you first started on Bond?"
"On the first film I was terrified. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into, until I was on location and had been travelling to Thailand. The first thing I had to do was go into a press room full of international press with Roger Moore, Christopher Lee and Brit Ekland! I thought `oh my God!` and then I began to understand what it was all about."
BBC: "Who was your favourite Bond girl, aside from yourself obviously?"
"Ursula of course. She is the protoype. Absolutely. But the Bond girl roles have become different. They have become more and more dangerous, and a lot more beautiful too, I think".
BBC: "Who was the best Bond?"
"I love Roger because he's my Bond. But I think all the Bond's have been good, they've all brought something special to it."
