Odds on Clive Owen taking on James Bond #6 role cut again to new record
The odds on Clive Owen being granted a licence to kill as James Bond #6 keep getting cut and cut by British bookmakers. Following his Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actor in "Closer", Owen's odds fell to 8-1. His subsequent Oscar nomination for the same role
then slashed his odds to 4-1.
Today, odds on Owen taking over from Pierce Brosnan for the 21st James Bond film have been cut to 5/2 - the narrowest odds ever given to an actor since betting began on 007 #6 in early 2003.
Yesterday's news that the Coventry born actor was tipped to sign a three-picture deal within weeks has sent a flurry of punters to bookmakers.
So much money was staked that, at one point, bookies William Hill stopped taking bets.
Clive Owen accepts the Golden Globe for best supporting actor for his role in 'Closer,' at the 62nd annual Golden Globe Awards - Beverly Hills, California January 16, 2005.
A Hillâs spokesman told
The Sun (UK): âOwenâs nomination sparked a betting frenzy from James Bond fans. They feel his heightened global recognition will have done his chances of being the next Bond a world of good.â
