Pierce Brosnan`s wife advised him to stand down to `save his dignity`

11-Feb-2005 • Bond News

Pierce Brosnan has revealed how his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, urged him to walk away from his James Bond role - in a bid to save his dignity.

The Irish actor, who was left furious after Bond producers failed to assure him he would play the suave spy for a fifth time, says Keely told him to forget the role and show he wasn't desperate for the part.

Pierce told Britain's Now magazine: "Whatever the reason, it wasn't going to happen for me as Bond any more.

"I don't mind admitting I was hurt and a bit mystified, but Keely said: 'You have nothing to prove to anyone. Just move on'.

"I'm one of those guys who believes that you need a good, strong woman in your life.

"I've been lucky in that respect and I take advice, so I've got no regrets."

The 51-year-old star also adds about his wife: "She's my woman, my lady, and she believes in me. That makes my life feel enriched."
