Jason Connery opens link to movie world

09-Mar-2005 • Actor News

Film students in Coventry, UK, are being given a direct route to Hollywood - by the son of movie legend Sean Connery.

Jason Connery, son of the James Bond star, announced the collaboration between Coventry University and his own Los Angeles-based film group on a visit to the city yesterday - reports icCoventry.

The star of Robin of Sherwood and children's TV drama Shoebox Zoo was opening a new media centre at the university's Ellen Terry building.

And it was there that, along with lecturer Nick Middleton, he announced the exciting new project which could see films made by city students screened before Hollywood's leading lights at a renowned Los Angeles venue.

Connery set up Short Mondays, an independent film-makers group, at the famous Pig and Whistle pub in Los Angeles, two years ago.

On the first Monday of every month, people are invited to show their films at the pub.

Following a visit by Nick Middleton, the actor and filmmaker agreed to work with city students on a film project. Mr Middleton said: "Short Mondays will provide us with a script and the students will shoot that script. If it is good enough it will be screened in LA by Short Mondays."

Jason Connery said: "What is really exciting is this idea of a liaison between Coventry and Hollywood. As long as you can tell a story you can make a film. I've made a short film for under £1,000, shot in one day and edited in a week."

The actor opened the media centre, which includes a post-production suite made by industry standard Avid, believed to be the largest in any UK university and the third largest in Europe.
