Casino Royale sells for second highest amount ever for Fleming first edition at auction

13-Mar-2005 • Collecting

MI6 reported on Ian Fleming lots going under the hammer by Bloomsbury Auctions back in February. Now the auction has taken place, and the final sale prices are in:

- Casino Royale first edition sold for £21,000 ($40,454 USD)

- A set of letters sold for £4,165 ($8,022 USD)

- "Limited edition" copy of OHMSS sold for £4,760 ($9,168.27 USD)

- Signed first edition copy of OHMSS sold for £3,332 ($6,417.91 USD)

- Dr. No first edition sold for £524 ($1,009 USD)

- BBC radio transcripts and address given at Fleming's memorial service sold for £893 ($1,720 USD)

This sale of Casino Royale was the second highest price ever paid for a Fleming first edition. The highest was the copy of "From Russia With Love" that was enscribed to Geoffrey Boothroyd, and auctioned last year.
