Majority of Bond fans would like an expanded Casino Royale adaptation

06-Jun-2005 • Casino Royale

A recent poll on MI6, the world's most visited unofficial James Bond website, revealed that the majority of fans would like to see an expanded adaptation of Ian Fleming's "Casino Royale" for the big-screen treatment next year.

47.06% of voters said they preferred to see an expanded version of Fleming's 1953 novel, rather than a faithful adaptation. Producer Michael G. Wilson recently commented that there was not enough in the book to fill a Bond screenplay. Traditionalists wanting the film to stay true to its literary roots were still in significant number though, with 15.69% voting for a true adaptation. Fans wanting just the title or characters used, as was the case with many of the Roger Moore era films, were the smallest group.

Results:
A true adaptation: 15.69%
An expanded adaptation: 47.06%
A loose adaptation: 21.57%
Use the title and characters: 9.80%
Just use the title: 5.88%

"Casino Royale", the 21st James Bond film, will be directed by Martin Campbell and shooting is scheduled to commence on January 17th 2006 in Prague and South Africa. No casting decisions have been made officially, including the role of 007. Stay tuned to MI6 for the latest and most accurate coverage of Casino Royale.
