USA TV - Pierce Brosnan hosting AFI 100 Greatest Movie Lines, Tuesday evening

21-Jun-2005 • Media Alert

Some of James Bond's lines are likely candidates for the American Film Institute's list in "AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Movie Quotes: America's Greatest Quips, Comebacks and Catchphrases," a new CBS special Tuesday, June 21, as former 007 Pierce Brosnan will be hosting the show.

Show: "AFI 100 Greatest Movie Lines"
Channel: CBS (USA)
Date: Tuesday 21st June 2005
Time: 21:00

As in past summers' "100 Years" specials, film-industry members including actors Billy Crystal and Ray Romano, director Rob Reiner and George Lucas -- the recipient of this year's AFI Life Achievement Award -- discuss the selections, also illustrated with relevant clips from the movies from which the chosen lines came.

It's all but certain "Bond. James Bond" will make the cut, since the host of the special is the screen's most recent Agent 007, Pierce Brosnan. He recalls first saying the line while making the 1995 adventure "Goldeneye."

"I remember doing the words with Famke Janssen (who played Bond nemesis Xenia Onatopp). She and I had spent the morning shooting the casino scene, and we went for the close-up on me right before lunchtime. Those immortal words came then, and I thought, 'This is great. If I don't get it right, I'll have to dwell over it over lunch.'"

Brosnan might have had to do just that. He says, "I was looking off camera, and behind the camera and Famke were about 100 extras. I thought, 'Do I ask them to clear my eye line?' I finally decided, 'No, I'll just stand here and do the words.' It's a powerful sentence, and everybody knows it. It was done impeccably well by Sean Connery the first time around, and you just hope you don't blow it."
