Corbis gets licensing deal for James Bond and MGM library

22-Jun-2005 • Bond News

Corbis Corp., which provides photos and other images to advertising designers and other creative agencies, has inked a deal to manage distribution of photographs and film footage owned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed - reports Business Journal.

Seattle-based Corbis will offer advertisers and editorial clients around the world the licensed use of MGM's library, which includes series such as Rocky, James Bond and The Pink Panther, as well as single films such as "Some Like It Hot" and "Fiddler on the Roof."

Los Angeles-based MGM holds rights to more than 4,200 titles in all.

"MGM motion pictures and television series are recognized around the world," said Gary Shenk, Corbis senior vice president of editorial image licensing and rights services. "We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to offer advertisers around the world a unique new way to tell their stories using these well-known clips and stills."

Corbis recently launched its rights representation business with partnerships with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Marvel Enterprises Inc., along with acquisition of the Roger Richman Agency, which represents more than 50 of the world's most recognized personalities.

The Corbis image library contains more than 25 million images, with more than 1.4 million of those available online. The company owns or represents photography and art collections from more than 1,500 creative sources, including Ansel Adams, The Bettmann Archive, UPI, the National Gallery, the State Hermitage Museum, as well as leading celebrity, commercial and editorial photographers.
