Betting re-opened on next James Bond actor

20-Aug-2005 • Casino Royale

Hugh Jackman's alleged decision to turn down the role of James Bond in "Casino Royale" has prompted bookmakers William Hill to open the next James Bond' betting.

In the last ten months the betting has seen four substantial gambles the biggest of which was for Dougray Scott in March when Hills were forced to close the betting fearing a coup after accepting simultaneous large bets including one from a lady who walked into a Hills branch in Wimbledon placing £1000 at 8/1 that Dougray Scott would be the next Bond. Other gambles have included Clive Owen, Ewan McGregor and Colin Salmon - reports ReadABet.

There are two new entries in the betting - Alex O'Lachlan and Goran Visnjic both of whom are relative unknowns but who punters seem to think have a chance. Hills make Clive Owen their 4/5 odds on favourite, closely followed by Daniel Craig at 3/1 and Dougray Scott at 4/1.

"Just about everyone has a view on who they think would be the best Bond and it has always been a very popular market with plenty of punters more than happy to put their money where their mouthes are. At present Clive Owen is our favourite but it is a very open market. The outsider of the bunch is Angelina Jolie at 50/1, if she wins then I would think Ian Fleming will be turning in his grave." said Hills spokesman Rupert Adams.
