Sunday Times columnist backs Brosnan for Bond return
So the producers of the Bond movies are bemoaning the fact that they canât find an actor to play 007 - reports David Marlborough in a column in
The Sunday Times.
Have they considered the blindingly obvious; bringing Pierce Brosnan back to the role from which he was so inexplicably and curtly dropped? Brosnan was an ideal 007 and his debut movie GoldenEye was the biggest-grossing Bond movie.
Itâs the producers that have been found wanting. The scripts for the Brosnan Bonds were hackneyed and banal. The next movie, Casino Royale, is the only unfilmed title from the Ian Fleming canon of 007 novels (discounting the 1967 spoof starring David Niven) and, as Flemingâs debut Bond novel, introduced the 007 character. This is a golden opportunity to jettison the daft gadgets and special effects and produce a taut, character-driven thriller along the lines of the early Bond movies such as From Russia with Love.
