Hugh Jackman confirms he is out of the running for James Bond role

21-Sep-2005 • Casino Royale

If any doubts remain about his becoming the next actor to step into the role of James Bond, Hugh Jackman put those to rest Sunday. "I'm not doing Bond," he said.

The Australian actor, who won for individual performance in a variety or music program for hosting the 58th annual Tony Awards on CBS, was quick to praise the U.S. and its acceptance of him. He also said that such fellow Aussies as Mel Gibson and Nicole Kidman have paved the way for other actors from Down Under - reports the Hollywood Reporter.

"I think America is the most generous country on the planet," said Jackman, who is filming "X-Men 3" in Vancouver with the last Bond girl Halle Berry. "Nowhere else you go ... do you get absolutely no attitude for being a foreigner. If you do your job well, you're embraced for being professional."
