James Purefoy `too busy` to follow up prospect of James Bond role

30-Oct-2005 • Casino Royale

James Purefoy has said in a recent interview that he was approached for the James Bond role earlier this year, but turned down the prospect.

Purefoy previously screentested for the 007 role back in 1995 before Pierce Brosnan was finally cast as the fifth official Bond. During the race to cast 007 #6, Purefoy was a clear favourite of those close to the franchise.

A reported for the Sunday Telegraph wrote, "He has been constantly touted as the next James Bond - he tells me he was indeed up for the part but was too busy to accept it, and insists that Daniel Craig, who has just got the role, will be better.'
