Bids race over £1000 for one-off James Bond charity car from Corgi

24-Nov-2005 • Collecting

Since its launch in 1956, Corgi, one of the best-known toy and collectables brands, has produced models of virtually every type of car, bus and truck.

Now it has another collectors' item under its belt - a special limited edition Children in Need James Bond charity set - reports Times Online.

Corgi, specialists in making the great small, has given Pudsey Bear his very own licence to thrill with two complete customisations of the most iconic Bond cars.

The Aston Martin DB5 shared screen time with Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball, while Pierce Brosnan turned heads in the V12 Vanquish in Die Another Day.

Now the two classic Bond cars are available in never-seen-before Pudsey livery, revamped in honour of Children in Need and complete with bright yellow finish and polka dot "bonnet" scarves.

The models come complete with Bond gadgets and working features from the original cars, including rear bullet-proof screen, ejector seat and machine guns for the DB5 while the Vanquish has spiked tyres, front-firing missiles and machine guns on the bonnet.

Only one set has been produced worldwide, making this a unique opportunity for collectors.

Alex Balzaretti, Marketing Manager of Corgi Toys and Special Interest, said: “Corgi is extremely excited to be involved in raising money for such a well deserved cause like Children In Need.

“We would like to raise as much money as possible and have therefore chosen to model the James Bond gift set which has always been amongst our most popular collectors’ items.”

Corgi, which celebrates its 60th birthday next year, has produced thousands of sought-after models, including the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally Mini Cooper S (worth £300 to £400), The Man from U.N.C.L.E's 1966 'Thrushbuster' Oldsmobile (£250-£300), and the 1959-61 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop, pale green body (£175-£200).

And if you have the right 1969 Noddy car lurking in the attic it could be worth more than £700.

If you would like to be the proud owner of the world’s only Children In Need James Bond Aston Martin DB5 and V12 Vanquish charity set, start bidding now.

The auction ends 26-Nov-05 23:08:03 GMT
