Actors seek minor Casino Royale roles in the Bahamas

19-Mar-2006 • Casino Royale

Budding actors in the Bahamas are hoping to win parts in the new James Bond movie being filmed there - reports Voice Online.

Producer Michael Wilson expects his crew to be there for at least a month. He said: “A lot of the locations featured on the film will be in the Bahamas. About 80 per cent will be filmed in Nassau and then there is a second unit which is supposed to be Madagascar.”

The film, Casino Royale, stars actor Daniel Craig in his first outing in the leading role.

Casino Royale is the first book written by Ian Fleming and for many years the film’s producers wanted to make the film but Fleming had sold off the rights. The rights were finally acquired in 2000.

Approximately 150 Bahamians were hired as crew and another 600 are expected to get work as extras. Wilson also praised the location: “The Bahamas is ideal for filming because of its close proximity to the United States, where equipment can be readily purchased. Bahamians speak English and are familiar with film units.”
