James does not Bond with his audience according to Bourne Ultimatum director
The
Boston Herald has reported on comments made by Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass. According to the director, movie-goers find Jason more likeable than James.
Action hero-with-amnesia Jason Bourne is more likeable to movie-goers than the ever-so-suave secret agent James Bond, opines âBourne Ultimatumâ director Paul Greengrass.
The filmmaker, who just started work with Matt Damon on the third âBourneâ flick, said audiences identify more with the spy-on-the-run than the shaken, not stirred Agent 007.
Which may explain why âCasino Royaleâ producers are making a conscious effort to ârough-upâ James Bond (played by Daniel Craig) from his glam persona to one that is more gritty, Greengrass told contactmusic.com.
âWell, you know what they say? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,â he said. âThatâs honestly what I think. I think thereâs a big difference between James Bond and Jason Bourne.
âI think James Bond is the secret agent who likes being a secret agent and likes killing people,â Greengrass said. âHeâs a misogynist (and) an old-fashioned imperialist.â
As for Bourne, a young government operative, heâs âan outsider on the run and heâs one of us and heâs fighting against them, I think,â the director said. âThatâs the profound difference, and thatâs why I like Bourne.â
An unbiased opinion, of course!
