Dame Judi Dench backs British museum push

23-Mar-2006 • Actor News

Dame Judi Dench is one of the leading figures fronting a new campaign calling for London's troubled historic Victoria And Albert Theatre Museum to be kept open - reports Monsters & Critics.

The adored 71-year-old actress, best known for her portrayal of M in the James Bond flicks, made the appeal via a letter to The Times.

Dame Diana Rigg, Vanessa Redgrave and Peter Bowles all also signed the letter urging chiefs to help raise the £11.7 million the museum needs for urgent redevelopment.

'We are horrified that this important and world-renowned museum could be closed and its collection broken up,' the letter read.

'We fear this means that most of the exhibits would no longer be available to the public.'

The priceless exhibits include a collection of stage costumes such as Sir Laurence Olivier's outfit from Richard III.

Thanks to `Kyvan` for the alert.
