Goldfinger hotel in Miami goes in to liquidation -- bargains for collectors
Bargain hunters have a chance to own a piece of Miami Beach history.
As the famed Fontainebleau Resort at 4441 Collins Ave. is prepared for renovations, everything at the 36-story hotel is being sold through a liquidation sale running through April 20.
David White of Universal Hotel Liquidators, the Connecticut company overseeing the liquidation, says items available include silverware for 25 cents, dishes for $1, beds and TVs for $89, as well as chairs, desks and everything else from the hotel's 876 rooms, including the Goldfinger suite -- named after the 1964 James Bond movie filmed at the hotel.
White says there is also a nostalgia factor for some visitors.
"This is a historic hotel and many people are coming here to see the Fontainebleau one last time," he wrote in an e-mail.
The Fontainebleau, which opened in 1962, is undergoing a two-year, $450 million renovation under new owners.
Liquidation hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays.
