10-May-2006 • Collecting

Most of the cover artwork for the forthcoming James Bond Ultimate Edition DVDs have been released in two waves over the last week, but three titles were missing.

MI6 has an exclusive preview of the final three DVD cover jackets for the remaining titles yet to be unveiled: "Diamonds Are Forever", "Licence To Kill" and "GoldenEye".

Licence To Cut?
MI6 exclusively revealed yesterday that "GoldenEye" will be uncut in the Ultimate Edition release, but it is still not clear if "Licence To Kill" will also enjoy the same treatment, as the cover art is not marked "uncut". However, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) re-classified "Licence To Kill" in 2005 with additional footage, but it is yet to be confirmed whether this will include the scenes cut from previous UK releases.

Back at the time of release in 1989, several cuts were made to the film in order to achieve the 15 certificate. Approximately 3m 35s five seconds of footage was cut originally. These included an underwater scene where Felix is being fed to the sharks and a shot of his stump (where his leg should be) was cut, a shot of Krest's head exploding, Lupe's whipping, Dario's legs getting minced whist he is still alive, and the fiery death of Sanchez was trimmed down.

The version listed by the BBFC had a run time of 127m 44s.

Stay tuned to MI6 for coverage of the Ultimate Edition DVDs, the only James Bond site to cover the release in full.
