British tabloids `confirm` Goldfrapp title song story
Following the news MI6 reported two days ago that revealed
singer Alison Goldfrapp had publicly admitted that she was writing the theme song for the forthcoming James Bond film "Casino Royale", the British press have been awash with "exclusives" today, some adding their own 'insider' quotes to beef up the facts.
The
Daily Mirror reported:
We can reveal that Alison and pal Will Gregory have been offered one of the biggest honours in the music biz - to record the new Bond theme.
They'll be on a mission to repeat the enormous success of previous 007 tunes, from Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger to Macca's Live And Let Die.
Musical director David Arnold is keen for the Bath duo to work on the title track for Casino Royale and talks are in the final stages.
The deal is potentially worth millions and could propel Goldfrapp to international stardom - along with new James Bond, Daniel Craig - when the movie is released in November.
A source told us yesterday: "Alison and Will are absolutely thrilled. Nothing has been signed yet, but they're the hot favourites.
"They're a slightly cooler choice than you'd expect, but producers are determined to make Casino Royale the edgiest Bond yet to appeal to younger people.
"To be asked to contribute to the soundtrack is one thing, but to record the title song is on a different scale in terms of prestige.
"This will take the band to a whole new level."
If there's one person who can give the duo all the advice they need on recording the song it's their fan Madonna. She, of course, recorded the theme tune to 2002 Bond flick Die Another Day.
But modest Alison ruled out a collaboration with the queen of pop, saying: "I think I would look stupid next to her. She would be very agile and I'd be trying to drag myself around the stage."
The news will crown an incredible 12 months for Goldfrapp. The band, whose hits include Ooh La La and Fly Me Away, have released their biggest and fastest-selling album Supernature, toured the States and are huge headliners at the big summer festivals.
Another celebrity fan is Kate Moss - who, coincidentally, is an ex of the new Bond, Daniel Craig.
Says our source: "Daniel has that offbeat appeal and his tryst with Kate made him headline-worthy. Goldfrapp have had an incredible year and it's set to go off the scale with this film."
