Roger's first job was as a tracer and filler-in at an animated film company. He then went on to become a member of the studio workers union, ACTT, which in later years proved useful in directing films. From 1962, Roger appeared on British TV screens as the suave and debonair Simon Templar, in the TV series ‘The Saint’. This proved to be a significant step in catapulting him into big time stardom. However, his contract on the TV series prevented him from initially playing James Bond, in 1962. It was only when Roger had completed twenty-four episodes of ‘The Persuaders’, that he was finally offered the role as Bond in 1972. He was to continue with the role for a full twelve years and, to a large generation of fans, he remains the only true James Bond. In the early 1980's Roger became interested in working with UNICEF through his friend and fellow actor, Audrey Hepburn. He was appointed UNICEF Special Representative for the Film Arts in 1991, and soon after was named UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, to acknowledge his outstanding service to children. Moore has since received numerous awards for his humanitarian work. Moore appeared in a number of film flops during the 1990s such as ‘The Quest’ and ‘Spice World’. In early May of 2003, he collapsed onstage during a Broadway performance of ‘The Play That I Wrote’. After making a full recovery, he is still making films and appearing on television
